Thousands of British trawlers and their crews were recruited into service as minesweepers and U-boat hunters in the First World War, and hundreds of boats and crewmembers were lost to enemy action. One surviving vessel was Viola, the subject of our book by Robb Robinson and Ian Hart. Robb appears in a new 45-minute documentary film No Fish Today, about the trawlermen’s unsung yet vital contribution in the war at sea, made by Humberside community broadcaster Estuary TV, and now available to watch on YouTube here.
