When we published For the Love of Sauntress in 2014, Tom Cunliffe was moved to email: “Dick, how do you keep finding these great writers?” Martin O’Scannall’s beautifully written account of his restoration of, and forty-year love affair with, a lovely 1913-vintage gaff cutter has now been highlighted by Tom in his ‘Great Seamanship’ series in Yachting World for December, with an extract and photos running over three pages. As Tom writes: ‘O’Scannall shows us how a man ready to listen to lessons taught in the classroom of the creeks and the open sea can learn as much about himself as he can the way of a sailing boat on salt water.’
